Cross Section Of Spinal Cord Tracts
Spinal cord tracts diagram ascending tracts convey information from the periphery to the brain.
Cross section of spinal cord tracts. On each side the white matter is divided into three funiculi. On the other hand the descending tracts carry information from the brain to the periphery. Several of these tracts undergo decussation as they pass up or down the brainstem and spinal cord meaning that they cross over from the left side of the body to the right or vice versa.
In cross section the peripheral region of the cord contains neuronal white matter tracts containing sensory and motor axons. Anterior lateral and posterior. Cervical or neck thoracic or chest lumbar or abdomen sacral or pelvis coccygeal or tailbone.
Internal to this peripheral region is the grey matter which contains the nerve cell bodies arranged in the three grey columns that give the region its butterfly shape.
