Definition of a cross sectional study. Cross sectional studies are observational in nature and are known as descriptive research not causal or relational meaning that you can t use them to determine the cause of something such as a disease. A cross sectional study is defined as a type of observational research that analyzes data of variables collected at one given point in time across a sample population or a pre defined subset. A cross sectional study might be a study of a disease such as aids at one point in time to learn its prevalence and distribution within the population.
A research study done at one time not over the course of time. Also known as a synchronic study. Researchers record the information that is present in a population but they do not manipulate variables.
Cross sectional study a study that examines the relationship between diseases or other health related characteristics and other variables of interest as they exist in a defined population at a single point in time. This study type is also known as cross sectional analysis transverse study or prevalence study. It is used for examining phenomena expected to remain static through the period of interest.
