Section 503 Disability
Section 503 now allows employers to invite applicants to voluntarily self identify as having a disability.
Section 503 disability. The 503 final rule requires contractors to offer applicants a chance to self identify as having a disability both before and after a job offer. Section 503 prohibits contractors from using qualification standards and selection criteria that screen out or tend to screen out an individual with a disability or a class of individuals with disabilities unless the contractor can show that the standards or criteria are job related for the position in question and consistent with business necessity. Passed in 2008 the adaaa has expanded the definition of disability thereby including more individuals with disabilities under its protections against discrimination in the workplace and other settings.
